It was Dr. Pat Code of Oregon who first visited the Da Nang Orthopaedic and
Rehabilitation Center in 1997. And it was he who realized that
the residents of his alma mater, the Palo Alto VA Medical Center, would
benefit from the experience he had been privileged to enjoy.
The following year, those of us who volunteered our services agreed that the experience was one we would remember forever. It was decided that we would commit to supporting the Center and visit each year with needed material and assistance. The project was spearheaded by two Palo Alto VAMC Podiatric residents: Dr. Heather Crawford, and Dr. Colleen Schwartz

The VMP was unable to visit Vietnam in 2003, but we were fortunately able to sponsor in part a visit to the United States by two representatives of the Da Nang Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Center (see "The Mission" page)
